First In Tens & First To Twenty

The First In Tens bonus game is a wonderful activity for visual learners, and requires no reading. In this football-themed game, students pick a number from four choices—using graphic bars to help build equations where the sum is always 10. Answers are tracked in a "strength meter," which will add a 1-yard completion for every correct answer. When a student has completed 10 yards, he or she has made a "First Down," and will advance to the next set of downs. Small yellow "footballs" at the top show students what they have already completed. Students need all 10 First Downs to make a Touchdown and finish Round One. Round Two play is similar, except that there are no numbers, and players must complete the equations using only the graphic bars, helping to sharpen visual estimation skills.

The First To Twenty game (shown above) is very similar to First In Tens, but equations focus on sums from 11 to 20. Students begin at target number 11; when completed, they move to the next target number, 12. Students progress through the target numbers to 20 and finish Round One. Round Two play has no numbers, and players must complete the equations using the graphic bars only. This round is great for sharpening visual estimation skills.

Students can earn 80 stickers maximum for completing both rounds in each game; 4 stickers for each target number completed.

Players build equations to make the sum equal to a specific target number.

These are great games for visual learners. They require no reading and are not timed activities.
